Bio for Sharman Slye:

Without skill or instruction, all my efforts to draw and paint floundered until in 1980, when at age 30, I enrolled in a drawing class at Mira Costa College.  That was the beginning!

I had great teachers in Chris Rice Nugent, Diane Adams, and Sally Pearce for both drawing and watercolor.  Perietta Hester and Normal Wahl were my portrait instructors.

My goal/dream was to sell a “watercolor” by the time I was 40.  That didn’t happen as planned.  I sold my first painting when I was 41.  It was a depiction of Christ at the Mercy Seat.  (But that didn’t count because it was purchased by my brother!)  Later that same year, a Gallery in Laguna Beach accepted some matted pieces into their bins. 

In my mind you were not an artist until someone paid money for your work. That finally became a reality for me when I was 50 when I had my first show at the Adobe Gallery in Vista CA in about 2000.  I’ve been practicing up since then.  Some pieces are frivolous and fun- others are deeply rooted in Faith.  In that vein there are two children’s books written and illustrated in watercolor on my personal website:  famrapturelegacy.com
