Critiques
Comments by some SAG members:

"I feel this group is my art 'family'.  I hope that anyone joining SAG will attend the
monthly meetings and become a member of the family."

"McNeil had a way of making each person feel 'special'.  She encouraged everyone.
Level of artistic ability didn't matter.
Although McNeil is no longer with us in person, I hope that she will be with us in spirit always,
and that new members will feel as welcome as I did."

"The potlucks are FABULOUS--so many good cooks!"

"Thank you so much for the awesome Thanksgiving party with all those wonderful familiar faces and a special guest!
I am very fortunate to be in the wonderful SAG art group.  You guys are the best!
Art gives us meaning and helps us understand our world. Scientific studies have proven that art appreciation
improves our quality of life and makes us feel good. When we create art, we elevate our mood,
we improve our ability to problem solve, and open our minds to new ideas."

Join SAG

If you are ready to join SAG, please fill out our Membership Application Form.  If you have any questions, email me  [email protected]

Membership

We would appreciate a voluntary contribution $20 per calendar year.  A major portion of money collected, funds our website.  After the website is funded, it is up to the group to decide how to spend money that has been collected.  In the past, some money was spent on printing costs for cards and flyers and other advertising, and for name tags and badge holders, ZOOM, and for food.  Other possibilities might be speakers, workshops, trips, tours, etc.

If you are interested in joining SAG, please come to an in-person gathering, where you can meet other people who have an interest in art, and find out what is going on at SAG currently.  If you decide to join, and wish to make a contribution, pay with cash.

If you can not attend an in-person gathering, you will need to discuss possible options with Debbie Casher.  She will contact you after she receives your Membership Application Form .

Your Art on this Website

If you want to have your own page on the SAG website, you need to pay $20 each calendar year, which helps fund the website.
Once you have joined SAG and have paid $20, you are entitled to submit two images of your art (and whatever bio info you want included)  to
[email protected]

If you wish to have more than two images on the website, you can do so by paying to our webmaster, Patricia Boyd, a modest fee of $5 per image.  The $5 per image is a one time fee, and your page will remain as long as you maintain your membership in SAG (or you ask that something be deleted) or something catastrophic happens.

You can pay Pat for your images by using Zelle or via check.

Instructions for submitting images for the website:
Images of artwork on this website are 432 pixels high @ 72 dpi.  If possible, send that size to Pat Boyd at [email protected]
If you are not able to resize your image, send a larger image and I will resize it--OR if your image needs a lot of work, I will ask Bob Boyd to fix it.
If you have images on another website, I can copy if you want me to do that.

Please name the photos this way:  “number” “Name of artwork” “dimension w/o frame (height first x width)” “media” “artist name”.  For example:  “1 Psychotic Dunce 18x20 mixed media Joe Blow” "2 Hypno Hippopotamus 18x24 acrylic on canvas Joe Blow"  If you are sending the file directly from your phone, please include the name (as illustrated above) in the text of the email.

Also, we have the capability to post short videos on this website.
Videos, as well as images, need to be of high quality.

Sharing Information and How-to's for Artists

SAG members contribute to the organization in many ways--from bringing snacks to the meeting and cleaning up the meeting room --to finding locations for displaying art or sharing information about upcoming art shows--to demonstrating specific techniques they use in creating their art.  Many love to share what they have learned from experience.

SAG members, Bob & Pat Boyd, share some things learned from experience, including:
  • Wiring your artwork for hanging
  • Considerations for entering a show (weighing the pros and cons)
  • How to photograph your artwork for entry into shows and for the web  (This is from several years ago--using a camera)
  • Considerations for having your own website
To access this info, click on the following link to their website:

How to use your smartphone to photograph artwork for show entries:
About your smartphone:  Most newer smartphones have good cameras; some have great cameras.......

Here is a Tip:  Suppose that you want to tell someone to look at your art on the SAG website.  Instead of sending them to SargentArtGroup.org, send them directly to your page.  The link will look like this:
https://www.sargentartgroup.org/your-name.html   Although the "https://www." and the ".html" appear in the URL, it seems that is not required.  In other words, sargentartgroup.org/your-name should work. If the link didn't change to blue, It is not "clickable"; be sure that you hit the space bar after the last letter in your link.  If it doesn't change to blue, add www. in front of sargent...  Whenever you give a link to anyone, always click on the link to make sure it works.
To ensure that you have the link spelled correctly:  Instead of typing it, open your page on the SAG website, highlight the URL (that is the address near the top of the page near the left side of the screen), choose “copy”, and paste the link into an email.
If you have a page on websites of other groups, you can use the same procedure.  See the examples below.  Notice that each URL is slightly different.
